The Spirited Entrepreneurs of Port St. Joe
Nearly two decades ago, when Allen Harkins hired a new contractor named Ben Carnes to build a porch on his family’s beach house, neither could have predicted where that first handshake would lead.
After the project was completed, a lasting friendship was formed. As years passed, Ben grew into one of Port St. Joe’s premier builders, known for crafting custom homes that echoed the charm and warmth of this coastal town.
Meanwhile, Allen continued his family’s tradition of vacationing in Mexico Beach, all while building a career as a hotel developer and operator in the Florida Panhandle.
When Ben spotted the old bank building for sale, he knew it was the perfect site for something special. He picked up the phone and called his old friend Allen. Recognizing the potential of the location, Allen agreed, and together they began to dream up the Hotel Saint Joseph—a place where the elegance of custom home finishes meets the ease and hospitality of a boutique hotel.
